Incredibly, we are down to just 14 school days before we are at Christmas, and time is flying! We are beginning our Christmas play, which we will be presenting at school on the December 16th.
We are also wrapping up a number of units and will be having unit tests and projects over the next couple of weeks. An important highlight is our science fair, where we will be exhibiting our Space projects after Christmas.
We have started a new unit on body images. We will be dealing with issues of puberty, weight, appearance and emotios. This is important for both boys and girls to understand and accept. Please ask your children about these topics as they may be more inclined to talk about questions or concerns at home.
The goals of this unit are:
- To empower students to form a foundation for acceptance of their bodies, based on recognition of what they can and cannot control in regards to body size and shape.
- To prepare and empower students to resist unhealthy and unrealistic cultural pressures regarding body image
- To inspire students to develop a stake in healthy eating behaviors.
Hopefully you will have a good opportunity to help you and your child to work through reasonable expectations about body size and shape together.

Instead of a gift exchange, this year we will be making health and school supply bags to send to Africa in our container from Eston. We would like to fill 16 bags with medical and school supplies (pencils, sharpeners, crayons, toothbrushes, sponges, facecloths, etc) The point is not to spend more than the $15 that we would normally spend on gift exchanges, but to make it a meaningful and hands on experience as kids consider what it really means to share with others. Thanks for your help!
HOMEWORK:
ART: Learn lines for the play & bring costumes
ELA: Finish your novels / novel studies
SPELLING: test as usual on Friday
